Don’t Forget About the Other Floors in Your Home When Doing a Kitchen Remodel!
Spring is around the corner, which means more visits from family and friends. In this case, you want to ensure your home is looking great for visitors. What better way to do so than to remodel your kitchen and bath, and the floors throughout your home?
If you’re already planning a kitchen remodeling project, then be sure to not overlook other parts of your house. You may find the floors inside of your living and dining rooms need replacing, along with the floors in your bedrooms.
If you’re looking for flooring that doesn’t require a lot of sweeping and mopping, then carpet is a great choice. At Fairfax Kitchen and Bath, we have a great selection of carpets to choose from. This includes all sorts of colors and textures.
But let’s look at how you should choose your new carpet floors.
Different Carpet Styles
Now, once you’re done with your kitchen remodeling, it’s time to focus on selecting the best carpeting style. There are two main styles to choose from, which is determined by the carpet fibers that are placed to the backing.
One is called loop pile, which literally means the fibers are bent into loops. With this style, you are getting a floor that’s very durable and resistant to stains. However, it does have a low profile and doesn’t provide much cushion.
There are various types of carpets in the loop family, which include level loop and multi-level loops. With the level loop carpets, you have what’s called Berber carpet. These have short loops that survives in high-traffic locations.
Then with the multi-level loops, the carpets have varying heights, which can give the surface different patterns and textures.
Cut Pile Carpets
Another style of carpeting is known as cut pile carpets. This doesn’t contain any loops and the surface tends to be denser and softer. You can find various types of cut pile carpets to choose from.
One is known as plush, which has an even and smooth texture. It’s ideal for rooms going for a formal design. Then there’s the Saxory carpet, which has a smooth finish, but fibers that are twisted and longer. This gives the strands more body.
The long fibers of Saxory tend to leave footprints that linger and dents where furniture sits for a long time.
Another choice is textured cut pile, which contains uneven fibers with varying lengths. This gives more of a rough texture. Freize carpet is another option, which isn’t a great option for high-traffic locations. Some refer to this as shag carpets.
The one that is comfortable beneath the foot and contains long, thick fibers it the Cable carpet. You can find cut pile that comes with loop or cut fibers, so in a sense, you can get the best of both worlds. It’s great at hiding stains and dirt, which means less cleaning required on your end.
What About Carpet Fibers?
Carpets are typically designed with a mix of natural and synthetic fibers. Each type comes with its own set of characteristics.
For instance, you have Nylon, which is the most popular of the bunch. It’s very durable and resists wear and tear. However, it’s not so great when it comes to resisting stains. If you go this route, make sure to have a stain-resistant treatment applied to the fibers.
Then there’s olefin, which is resistant to mold, mildew and moisture. It’s the perfect selection for damp places, like basements, bathrooms and outdoors. Compared to nylon, olefin is tougher, but isn’t that comfortable underfoot.
Acrylic is another carpet fiber that’s cheap and a great alternative to wool. However, it’s not so easy to get your hands on. Lastly, there’s wool, which is the premium fabric of them all. It’s all-natural and very durable and resistant to stains.
