Arlington, Virginia is the home of many important monuments and buildings. It’s where the U.S. government decided to place it’s defense department, The Pentagon. Here, you can find an assortment of government and military-related sites, like the John F. Kennedy Eternal Flame and the United States Air Force Memorial monument. If you’ve yet to visit the Tomb of the Unknowns, it’s a site worth seeing.
It wouldn’t be surprising if war veterans and U.S. patriots made up much of the Arlington population, which was estimated at nearly 230,000 in 2015. This makes it the fourth biggest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It’s also the second largest principal city in the Washington metro area.
Besides the many patriotic sites found in Arlington, VA, there are many other things to see and do as a family or couple. Those who enjoy the creative mind can check out the Arlington Arts Center or if you’re into old churches, you can pay a visit to the Cathedral of Saint Thomas. Outdoor enthusiasts may want to spend some time hitting Curtis Trail or strolling through local parks like Freedom Park.
There are a number of notable restaurants you can enjoy as well, such as The Liberty Tavern, Jaleo and Carlyle, to name a few. There’s something for everyone’s taste buds, whether you want to dine in or out with Italian, Mexican, Spanish, Asian or American foods.
An elderly customer decided to contact Fairfax Kitchen and Bath to have his master bathroom updated and customized with accessibility features. His wife was now using a walker and wanted to make sure that the bathroom was easy for her to use, and with little incident. They had a nurse that helped them out during the day, so the features he wanted to add would help to make her job easier.
The guest bathroom was a half bath and was only going to be updated with new counterops and fixtures. Only the master bathroom was undergoing a complete renovation. Our professionals came out to the property to assess the bathrooms and quoted them for the labor and the materials, since we’d be providing majority of it. The customer already purchased the accessibility items they wanted us to install, such as the bars, taller toilet and hands-free sink faucet.
The client and his wife chose one of our affordable packages for the master bathroom remodel, which included a new vanity cabinet, tile floor, tile around the bathtub, medicine cabinet, bathtub and fixture, plumbing, demolition, bath light, toilet and vanity sink.
At the end of the remodels for both bathrooms, the customer and his wife were very excited. His wife had become partially disabled a year back and didn’t like the idea of being handicapped. The accessibility additions we implemented allowed her to get around the bathroom at night when the nurse wasn’t around, and didn’t have to disturb her husband as he slept.
We also installed touch night lights so that she could easily light the bathroom when she went on her own at night. The bathroom renovations came out just as planned and the customer loved it. He was worried about one day becoming less able and feels reassured that the accessibility of his new bathroom will make growing older a bit easier.
At the start of the project, we decided to do the hardest job first, which was the master bathroom. We demolished everything inside, hauling out everything but the pipework. The first step was to lay down the new tile floors. They chose an off-white color for the floors, which would match the tile around the bathtub.
Once the floors were complete, we began installing the fixtures, which include the new toilet, vanity, sink and bathtub. There was no standup shower, so this was quite simple. The tub did have a shower built in. On the wall of the tub, we installed a grab bar for security and safety while taking showers and baths. The same was installed next to the toilet. The toilet they chose was taller, making it easier for the wife to use.
The countertop for the vanity was a nice beige granite with dark veins. It added a luxurious modern touch to the bathroom. The couple didn’t want the bathroom to feel “old”, so they made sure to include designs and décor that made it attractive and contemporary.
After completing the master bathroom, we moved on to the half bath downstairs. The tile was to remain the same, so we only removed the toilet and vanity. This was replaced with new porcelain toilet and sink with a dark gray granite countertop on the vanity.
Altogether, this remodel took three weeks to complete. No permits were needed, since we weren’t adding any new plumbing.
At Fairfax Kitchen and Bath, we offer a variety of bathroom remodeling packages. The tile come with an array of color options, based on the package you choose. This allows you to decide how much or how little you want done to your bathrooms and kitchen remodeling.
We offer granite and marble tile options from brands like Silestone, Caesarstone and Cambria. There are also different vanities, sinks, faucets, knobs/pulls and flooring to choose from. We can install tile, stone, carpet or hardwood floors.

Arlington is a County you can find within the Commonwealth of Virginia. In the beginning, Arlington County was a part of Fairfax County, back when Virginia was just a colony. Prominent Englishmen were granted land from the British monarch in exchange for efforts at development and political favors.
The name Arlington derives from Henry Bennet, Earl of Arlington. The name of his plantation was Arlington Plantation, which sat near the Potomac. In 1802, land was later acquired by George Washington Parke Cutis, who was the grandson of the First Lady Martha Washington.
Then it was later passed along to Mary Anna Cutis Lee, the wife of Robert E. Lee, who was a general in the army. During the American Civil War, the land was transformed into Arlington National Cemetery.
